Baumann dining chairs, vintage

Category :

Splendid set of 6 honey coloured Baumann chairs. Emile Baumann (Swiss) created the Baumann company in 1901. He started by creating plywood chairs for children. During the seventies Baumann had 600 employees and was expanding very fast. They had orders from restaurants for whom they created bistrot chairs. They also made furniture for kids like small cars. Unfortunately the company closed its doors in 2003. These chairs have not been copied (yet) and are not in production anymore. Needless to say that they are very much searched for and they're becoming really hard to find. This model is called "ant" (fourmi) like the Arne Jacobsen model. I really like the shade of these which is a honey-like brown. A really nice model because not too big but comfortable. All of the chairs are brandmarked underneath. Do not expect them to be all the same; each of them has different shades, stains and patina. They have had an interesting life before and that's what vintage is all about : Re-using and ecology. And the charm they create around a modern table...you have no idea. I bet if you found those in one of these fancy restaurants you have today you would say : "oh that place looks so nice". Well in a big part it will be because of the chairs. So if you have nice chairs at home, if really makes the difference. Anyway that's what I think ;-)
